The Child Welfare Supervisor Support and Capacity Building Program is a twelve (12) month training and professional development program that is designed to assist and support Child Welfare Supervisors as they transition into their new positions. This comprehensive training will include a child welfare mentor, CQI mentor, classroom training, peer support groups and practice activities to help prepare the new Child Welfare Supervisor in carrying out the very important and challenging duties associated with supervising in child welfare. The job of a front line supervisor in child welfare is universally regarded as one of the most important ones to ensure child safety, permanency, and well-being. We recognize that in order for you to be the most competent and supportive supervisor you can be, we must provide you with additional, specific training and support. This program is designed to do just that.

This certificate program consists of six, two-day sessions that are conducted over the course of six (6) months. Each supervisor will be assigned a Child Welfare Coach to provide support and guidance during the first six months of supervision and/or throughout the (virtual) classroom training. During the remaining six months of the program participants will participate in monthly support groups to continue learning and sharing supervisor strategies and skills.

Each supervisor will complete a personal learning and development plan (PLDP) based on the DCFS CW Principles of Practice. The supervisor will work on accomplishing their goals with support from their coaches, managers and trainers. At the conclusion of the classroom training and coach/mentor portion of the training, there will be a 360 evaluation of each supervisor to assess growth and development based on the principles of practice. The 360 assessment consists of a self-evaluation and an evaluation from the manager, coach/mentor and supervisor’s staff.

Target Participants: New DCFS-Child Welfare Supervisors.

Upon successful completion of the orientation participants will receive 1.5 General CEUs. Upon completion of the PLDP participants will receive 0.5 General CEUs
